OASIS continues to expand its offerings by announcing its first seminar – “Women in the Diaconate”.  It will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Naples, FL. at the Holiday Inn Express. The forum will present the historical and theological ministerial role of deacons in Christianity.  The possible inclusion of women to this ministry in the Catholic Church is the added dimension to be explored.

Deacon William T. Ditewig, Ph.D. will be our renowned keynote speaker. Dr. Ditewig has contributed to a better understanding of the deacon’s role through his service and writings. Upon completing five years at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, where he served as the Executive Director of the Secretariat for the Diaconate, he then became a Professor of Theology and Director of Graduate Programs in Theology at Saint Leo University near Tampa, FL. Recently, Deacon Ditewig was appointed to the senior diocesan staff of the Diocese of Monterey, CA while also serving as an adjunct Professor of Theology at Santa Clara University. He has authored ten books and co-authored “Women Deacons – Past, Present, Future” with Dr. Phyllis Zagano and Dr. Gary Macy.

Joining Deacon Ditewig for this forum will be recognized panelists for both morning and afternoon sessions. The panel will be represented by knowledgeable ordained, religious, and laity of both gender who will bring a diverse, theological balance to the discussion.
